McLaughlan: Patrol Boat Converted to Lobster Fishing Vessel
Originally launched in 1992 and operating out of Geraldton, McLaughlan started life as a 20 metre Western Australian Department of Fisheries vessel where it patrolled the West Coast and Gascoyne bioregions for 23 years. During this time it was responsible for delivering monitoring and compliance services at the Houtman Abrolhos Islands and for the rock lobster industry, as well as performing search and rescue operations, oil spill responses and other maritime related operations.
In late 2016 Southerly designs was approached about an extension that would allow McLaughlan to be used as a lobster fishing vessel. In early 2017 a 1.6m extension was added and cray tanks were installed in the aft of the vessel, giving her a live capacity of 64 baskets.
