As an early adopter of computer design technology, Southerly Designs have always tested the latest naval architecture software and CAD/CAM/CAE software. We then use the best.
Southerly Designs was a beta tester for Macsurf back in the 1980’s.
Maxsurf has become the dominant naval architecture software for hull design & stability analysis worldwide.
Southerly Designs was an early adopter of Shipconstructor software back in the early 2000’s for 3D part generation, streamlined shipyard production assembly management, & delivery of highly optimized nested plasma/router/laser cut sheets to shipyards.
Shipconstructor has become the dominant CAD/CAM naval software worldwide.
Southerly Designs typically use:
- Bentley Maxsurf suite for hull design, detailed hydrostatic and stability analysis;
- Bentley Microstation & Autodesk AutoCAD for general drawing, 3D visualisations and production modelling;
- SSI ShipConstructor for structural detailing and shipyard production drawings, nesting & build module management;
- Autodesk Navisworks 3D model for vessel structural design visualization & production management
- Ansys CAE/multi-physics for high level vessel performance prediction, seakeeping & structural engineering analysis when required.
Close consultation with owners, operators and shipyards: combined with modern technology – and our extensive database of real world boat data enables Southerly Designs to continuously deliver innovative and efficient designs to satisfied clients around the world.
