Cruel Sea – Lobster Fishing Vessel
‘Cruel Sea’ is a lobster fishing vessel designed by Southerly Designs & built by Geraldton Boat Builders for a repeat customer. The vessel was designed for fishing around the Abrolhos Islands with a low draft and jet propulsion for fishing near reefs. The hull features a fine entry with a moderate dead rise aft and the traditional Southerly flare. Its low deck/profile keeps the weight a down low for improved seakeeping when fully loaded.
In order to increase their on board operational capacity the Bailey brothers decided to extend the cruel sea in 2013, consulting Southerly Designs for the design & naval architecture and Fine Entry Marine for the rebuild. An extension of 1.4m was added amidships increasing the overall live tankage aboard the vessel and working deck space.
