Cruel Sea: 16.88m Lobster Fishing Vessel
Long term client Daydawn Fisheries approached Southerly Designs with the requirement to replace their existing smaller Southerly jetboat. The new vessel is a significant step up on the old boat with the ability to carry 180 pots along with 44 baskets (approx. 1.4t), while being fully compliant to the new AMSA rules. Power by twin 900hp Scania engines and Hamilton waterjets, Cruel Sea can reach speeds in excess of 35 knots. A key requirement for the design was to minimise the draft of the vessel, due to the shallow ground of the Abrolhos Islands where the vessel operated. A unique hull bottom design allowed the draft to be kept to an absolute minimum allowing the operators to take the vessel to almost all the locations they could take their smaller jet boat.
