Delphinus: Police Patrol Vessel
Delphinus is a 22 metre aluminium police patrol vessel permanently based at North West Water Police in Dampier, Western Australia. Launched in 1991 and originally operating in Victoria, she is now a valuable asset to Western Australian water police undertaking various roles such as border patrol and search and rescue operations. A large aft deck and stern ramp allows Delphinus to launch, recover and stow her fast response rigid inflatable whilst at anchor or underway.
Powered by two powerful V12 MTU marine diesel engines, she can reach a top sprint speed of 27 knots and cruise comfortably at 20 knots. With over 12,000 litres of fuel on board she has the long-range and ocean-going capabilities that are required for patrolling the unpredicatble waters in northern Western Australia.
