K2: Lobster Fishing Vessel
Launched in 2003 and operating in the Houtman Abrolhos Islands, K2 is a purpose built low-capacity high-speed lobster fishing vessel. To deal with the shallow waters and reefs that the Abrolhos Islands are renowned for, and to achieve her blistering top speed, K2 uses twin Seafury surface drives. These surface drives are driven by two powerful Caterpillar marine diesels and give this 15 metre aluminium rocketship a top speed in excess of 42 knots, and a cruising speed of 30 knots.
With 2,800 litres of fuel on board and a live tank capacity of 10 baskets, K2 was a very capable high-speed lobster fishing vessel that few could catch.
