Singapore Police Coast Gaurd: Patrol Vessel
Built in 2001 by Strategic Marine, this one-off design was specifically tailored to the requirements of the client. As with similar Southerly vessels (albeit larger) operating in this role, the design features a developed-plate flare built into the topsides at the bow. The flare greatly increases bouyancy as the bow enters the sea, providing excellent lift. Careful consideration was given to the arrangement and featuers of the vessel, and resulted in a 10.5 metre high-speed vessel with an enclosed wheelhouse for three crew. Each of the original 20 vessels were powered by three 250hp Mercury outboards and allowed them to achieve a top speed in excess of 40 knots. The unique Southerly design was proven to be a success, and a further 10 vessels were ordered to make the fleet 30 strong.
